What protection do safety glasses offer?

There are several types of hazards against which safety glasses can provide protection. A distinction is made here between three types:

• Mechanical hazard (dust particles / small projectiles)
• Chemical hazard (liquids / gases / vapours)
• Radiation hazard (infrared / ultraviolet radiation)*

* Standard or prescription safety glasses do not protect against the radiation released during welding. When welding, always wear a welding hood or helmet that complies with EN 169.
